I'm a big fan of Rock & Roll. But to tell the truth, I'm not familiar with all these rock & roll songs. I'm searching for someone who knows more about all musical genres of rock & roll to write me a dissertation on this topic. Thanks for these great songs!

This is a difficult exercise .....many of these great songs , I do not consider Rock and Roll such as Blowin in the Wind or Graceland which is one of my personal favorites . I believe that real rock and roll morphed into pop music ,country and eventually into rap after the Beatles . There are exceptions of course , Tom Petty , Bruce Springsteen , Bob Seger but today Rock is dead !

This is a good list but, everyone has an opinion so I don't believe anyone can say they have the top 50 songs. I can think of many songs that are not on here that should be in my opinion.

The bulk of these are from the rock era--not rock & roll which began to fizzle about mid-1958. I'll give you a start with "Rumble" by Link Wray and the Wraymen. You can continue with a better list from there. Cheers.

Err I hope you dont mind me pointing out. Your list of 50 Best Rock and Roll songs are in fact POP songs NOT Rock & Roll Songs. When the term Rock & Roll is used it should mean things Like Rock Around the Clock, Great Balls of Fire, I hear you knocking Roll over Beethoven That'll be the day etc Jerry Lee Lewis Little Richard that sort of thing. NOT your list of POP songs.

Why Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender? It's a ballad!! I want to see you rock on that one. Don't Be Cruel and/or Hound Dog would be excellent choices, in fact his version of Hound Dog is still too raunchy for some people, even today. Oh, and don't throw away Jailhouse Rock, now there's a song that gets the party going!
