2 from Switzerland.. And 21 from USA... . This makes your list ridiculous, only in Bern there are 3-4 confiseurs that are better than at least 15 of USA. I guess Switzerland is the Land of chocolate for nothing....

Mary, listed as a japanese chocolatier is in fact from belgium... a nice chocolatier from japan would be "madame setsuko" btw, leonidas is good for unknowledgeable tourists... there are actually too many small chocolatier that have nice products that's it's too hard to list them all. also, we don't know how this ranking was made and which criteria were used ;)

Proud of seeing "El Rey"... Proud but not surprised... just have to give it a try to realize that is one of the best chocolate experiences ever. And it has the taste, the smell and the spirit of my homeland, Venezuela!

Hi, Really guys, Leonidas, Neuhauss,...? As these are fine Belgian chocolates, they really aren't the best, Belgium has to offer, ever far from it actually compared with other Belgian brands. If you have the chance please try B by B or Centho, Chocolatier M also very nice. Personnaly i think B by B is one of the finest chocolates i tried in the last years, very delicate and full of taste, nice texture and good smell! For all Chocohalics, this is a recommandation worth trying... www.bbyb.be

HELP !!!!!!

You must try Donaldson's Chocolates in Lebanon, Indiana. This is by far the best chocolates I've ever had, hands down. Their truffles in particular are superb, especially the dark chocolate. Their products are hand made, none of that "machine made" taste. They ship everywhere too, so I recommend you try them on the next order you do. I guarantee you won't regret it.

The best chocolate is the one with the higest flavonoids in the cacao . I know a cacao that has more than >800 mg flavonoids in one square of 9 gram the higest one in the world. And the taste? check it yourself. www.thepowerofchocolate.eu

i'm truly sorry that i have to say it in such a harsh way, but your 50best chocolates list ist complete BS. just chauvinistic in it's badest way. 25 nominations from the USA (the treasure of culinaric excellence *lol*) and two chocolatiers from switzerland, your kiddin', right?! (same goes for belgium for what it's worth). and then what chocolates is "lindt & sprüngli" or "teuscher" supposed to be? first one's a huge company that (among other stuff) produces a variety of at least 100 different chocolat products, and latter is just a confectioner chain, with depences around the world. i thought your lists should be an adviser for good stuff and regional diversities, but i had to learn, they're just hobnailed and smattering. you people should better get your own act together before you arrogate yourself to judge over other peoples handiwork. best regards from switzerland (home of maitres choclatiers since before your nation even existed..)

@ Mr. Simon Saturno: Actually, both La Praline and Kakao are not chocolate makers but confectioners (they elaborate bonbons, etc). Both of them make their products using CHOCOLATES EL REY.

Tue. April 26, 2011 5:54 AM - by: SIMON SATURNO
There are two other chocolate makers in Venezuela as good as El Rey: La Praline (Los Palos Grandes, Caracas) and Kakao (Paseo Las Mercedes, Caracas).

Please, please, please come to Ireland when next compiling your "50 Best Chocolates" list. In Cork there is a company called O'Connaill Chocolates and in my humble opinion they have the best tasting chocolate in the world, and since I am a chocoholic who has travelled a great deal I believe I am qualified to make this comment! They make bars in various cocoa contents including a 99% version, for all those who like the bitter side of chocolate. Whilst I do enjoy their 70% version my personal favourite is either 35-38%, which has a smoothness that melts on the tongue and glides effortlessly down ones throat... because it is easy to eat and always a full, satisfying sensation the normal sized bar doesn't last long for me!!! For more information all you choco lovers, they have a website: www.ococo.ie. Happy eating!:-) Tamzyn

I love Green & Blacks, and also enjoy Whole Foods Organics. But the one i always keep a stash of is Moser Roth. It's the Aldi's store brand. it's as cheap as Hersheys at Walmart, but the flavors are amazing!

Wed. November 17, 2010 7:32 PM - by: TRex
They're a pretty new company so Im not surprised they're not on this list (YET), but check out Fearless Chocolate (www.Fearlesschocolate.com), pretty amazing single origin and organic chocolate sourced from brazil, made in america. I am truly impressed with this company.

Dilettante chocolate is not on this list, nor is Fran's or Seattle's best chocolate or Theo Chocolates - all very famous in Seattle. Three award winning chocolatiers from Seattle, Washington. How do you get in the top 50?

Whether you are looking for that perfect gift or just a guilty pleasure there is no alternative to Vakko Chocolate:)

A chocolate I highly recommend is Bernachon from Lyon, France. Fortnums also do great chocolate (own brand bars and ganache, as well as stocking many from the list), L' Artisan du Chocolat are also very good (Chelsea, London). Pierre Marcolini is a far superior Belgian Chocolate compared to Leonidas particularly (also Neuhaus). I second the comment Re. 25/50 from the US. Don't bother with Hotel Chocolate.

Can't belive Cadbury is on this list! That's the most discusting choclate I've ever eaten ... However I'm disapointed that I can't find Hotel Chocolate (England) that's real chocolate!

Tue. December 15, 2009 12:00 PM - by: Fred Desmeules
Your top 50 is stupid... 25/50 are from US and everybody knows that the best chocolate comes from Europe. And Cadbury is amongst the best chocolates??? You gotta to be kidding me... I just wasted 5 min of my life reading this post. :(
