 Gran Habano Corojo #5

Gran Habano
Corojo #5
Robusto

GR Tabacaleras Unidas was founded in 1995, the love child of Guillermo Rico and his son George. As a third generation leaf grower, this family understands tobacco both in recognizing potential and then nurturing it to its fullest extent. Every step of the process, from seed to cigar, is cultivated with care and knowledge. The medium reddish-brown Corojo wrapper has a very lovely oily hue that actually shines. Notice the heaviness when held, denoting the fully packed tobacco leaf construction. The Gran Habano is a delicious Nicaraguan handmade with a medium body and spice/peppery flavor. This is a dark, attractive smoke with an elegant draw and burn. Towards the end, a savory creaminess develops, replacing the distinct taste of spice with almond. Priced much less than many of its Fifty Best peers, it's a definite bargain. Smoke it and feel the love!

Cuvée
Grand Lancero

This cigar gets its name from the French term found on wine bottles denoting a specific blend. Like fine Bordeaux wines, cigars also rely on the quality of terroir, climate, soil and care. These are the finest yields from the finest plantings, resulting in extraordinary refined flavor. You will immediately notice an extremely well-made construction. Rolled in a classic Lancero size, this cigar represents everything that a classic cigar should be. Rivaling even some of the best Cuban brands. Availability is intentionally limited to Chicago, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The Cuvée is a dark, alluring smoke that personifies good taste, complementing the hand of any discriminating smoker.

Partagas Serie P #2

Partagas
Serie P #2

Celebrating the brand’s 160th year, this Cuban only just arrived in 2005. The same size as the Montecristo #2, but different in flavor and in its heritage. Subtly spicy, this cigar embodies the classic Partagas character all the way. The wrapper is oily and brown with a musky scent that greets the lucky smoker. The cigar looks creamy and tastes that way upon lighting, with the famous hint of Partagas spice. It is a known fact that some cigars improve measurably with age. This is one cigar that will age and refine the longer it rests in your humidor. Some say this is the best cigar coming out of Cuba at present. Absolutely deserving to be among the fifty best.

Cusano
10th Anniversary
Crown Corona

Cusano goes all out to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the company. The result is very Cubanesque in its approach, meant to be savored slowly to enjoy every last puff. The secret of this cigar is that it combines a 1996 vintage Cuban wrapper from Ecuador with a spicy Mexican Sumatra binder. Although the petite Corona is small in size, it's big in flavor. Measuring only 5 x 42, but loaded with pleasure and tea-like flavors throughout. This cigar has been very well received, drawing comparisons to the Montecristo No. 4. Even the packaging is elegant, with an engraved metal plate and serial number.

Jose Seijas

Jose Seijas
El Señor de La Romana Grande

Toro

Created by the man who runs Tabacalera de Garcia, supervising the production of tens of millions of handmade cigars every year. Yet it's the only one that bears his name. This cigar is not for beginners, as many of the finer, more complex cigars becoming available lend a powerful essence, especially tobaccos originating from Peru and Nicaragua. An awesome smoke, surprisingly smooth for its full body, with flavors complemented by leather and earth undertones. Very well-made and interesting at 6 1/8 in length with a 52 ring gauge. The boxes are wrapped in leather over cedar to preserve the fine elegance of this beauty. The Jose Seijas is the cigar by a master blender made for himself, and we can appreciative that he did. If only they were not so hard to get!

Felipe Gregorio
Fusion

F1

Born and raised in Switzerland, Philip Gregory Wynne, the namesake behind Felipe Gregorio cigars, was always fond of the Cuban-style, full-bodied Havanas he smoked in Europe. His first cigar, the Petrus, was introduced at a time when most smokers were favoring the lighter-bodied smokes, but still he persisted. Thankfully so, because he now produces some of the finest smokes around, with the Fusion as one of his many efforts. A technique developed by Wynn is the fusion of wrapper, binder, and filler, fermented together in the same bales, from the very beginning of the manufacturing process, enhancing the superb flavor. The Fusion is an obvious world-class performer with boutique qualities and Havana style. Noted for its fine aroma, not flavored or potpourri-like, yet pleasing to the senses. A noticeable increase in power develops as the cigar burns to the end. Smooth, regal and very well-constructed. Only 50,000 are made in each size, making it a rare find indeed. Capture one and relish the experience of smoking this fine cigar.

Ghurka Black Dragon Gurkha
Black Dragon

Edicion Especial

A result of enormous devotion by Kaizad Hansotia himself, the label is a tribute to the fierce Nepalese fighters known as “Gurkhas”. Made by Beach Cigar Group, the Gurkha line of cigars never cease to amaze. Referred to as the “Rolls Royce” of cigars, the Black Dragon is the epitome of refinement. Simply superb in taste, construction, elegance and packaging. The wrapper is Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro and hails from a vintage 1990 crop. 15 year-old Cameroon binder, together with 12 year-old Dominican filler completes the cigar’s pedigree. The resplendent boxes made from camel bone with interiors of Indian teak, are as exquisite as the cigars. To say that this cigar is limited is an understatement. The demand for Gurkha cigars is through the roof, and the loyal customer base ever increasing. A final note, few rare cigars sport ten year-old wrapper, this is a ten year-old cigar.

Paul Garmirian
Gourmet
15th Anniversary Series

Produced in collaboration with one of the best cigar makers in the Dominican Republic. This cigar has reviewers raving, rivaling such heralded names as Monte #2 and Opus X, among others. The oily Colorado/Nicaraguan wrapper cloaks the filler and binder, creating a complex blend of flavors for the lucky smoker. An intriguing smoke, offering a fullness, yet, at the same time, rich and smooth. Five years of aging allows for this smoothness to develop. Taste cedar and hints of cinnamon, with the appearance of cocoa as the cigar reaches an end. The very fine construction and craftsmanship make this cigar a true masterpiece.

Pryme Gold Pryme
Limited Edition Gold

Alan Rubin, president of Alec Bradley is swinging for the fence, and hits it out of the park with this offering. The Pryme name comes from the corona or flowering top of the plant used for this cigar's wrapper. The wrapper is oily and very shiny because of its duty to protect the plant from the sun. Also called ligero, it is better known for power boosting characteristics from filler and not as wrapper. Well conceived by balancing the ligero's full aromatic flavor with a rich-tasting Mexican binder and four-nation filler blend from Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. This cigar is lustrous in a beautiful, glistening glow of appeal. Costly to produce, there is less than 10% yield from an entire year’s crop worthy of this medium to full-bodied cigar. With only 1,500 boxes produced, the Limited Edition Gold Series is a complex and rare find, arriving in humidors made from Nogal wood, indigenous to Central America. It is actually very easy to speak of this cigar in loving terms, as one dares to bring fire to the foot and begin smoking.

Victor Sinclair
Serie 55
Grand Reserve Red Label
Robusto

Balancing the art of blending and aging, this exquisite smoke utilizes a five-country blend, and an extensive five year aging process. Hence the "55" name. A flavorful blend of Cameroon, Nicaraguan, Dominican, and Brazilian long filler, wrapped in a gorgeous red Corojo leaf. When smoking this medium to full-bodied cigar, think of black cherry notes and spice mixed with flavors of earth and leather-- All springing forth from the beautiful reddish-brown wrapper. This is not a smoke to rush through, but one to savor and enjoy slowly. Some say the Series 55 from Victor Sinclair is simply marvelous. If you are fortunate enough to try one, most likely you will agree. Lay this one down in your humidor for additional aging, to really develop the full potential of its greatness.
