Fifty Best Toronto Restaurants
C5 Continental
Celebrity Chef Corbin Tomaszeski has transformed the old menu into what is clearly Toronto’s most interesting architectural dining restaurant atop the Royal Ontario Museum. Your choice of rabbit with nori paste and a foie gras bonbon is an unexpectedly triumphant amuse, followed by a silky halibut fillet set in what looks like a rock pool shared with littleneck clams and mussels. There’s more, all a perfect antidote to the dinosaurs below. 100 Queen’s Park (Bloor Street entrance) (416) 586-7928
OPUS French/Continental
Set in an elegant Yorkville townhouse that sets a very high standard of excellence for its health-conscious menu and skilled service. For Opus, "wine is as important as food", something to be taken seriously. The fresh cut flowers, original R.C. Gorman's and Erte's, artistic wine displays and soft lighting, combine to create a beautiful setting. The kitchen is noted for perfectly grilled meat, fish and fowl; tantalizing pastas and risottos, adventurous vegetables, and inventive desserts. 37 Prince Arthur Ave. (416) 921-3105

PANGAEA Fusion
A smart and stylish favourite of those seeking a dining experience of exquisite taste. Classic dishes are prepared with a modern visionary's aplomb, introducing flattering twists on many favourites. Land, sea and seasons are well-respected, as are the freshest vegetables and glorious game. Fish and seafood are the specialities, and receive TLC. Attention to detail and thoughtfulness extend to the marvelous desserts. The wine list featuring Italians and Burgundies, is full of unexpected treasures. Afternoon Tea, another specialty, is offered daily. 1221 Bay Street (416) 920-2323
MIDEASTRO YORKVILLE Mediterranean
Raves greeted this new addition to haute cuisine headed by talented chef Benny Cohen; diners declare Mideastro “the best price/quality ration in Toronto”. Start with smoky mashed eggplant, or their fantastic fried eggplant, silky beef carpaccio stuffed with truffled arugula or the freshest ceviche followed by sweet-spicy ground lamb on homemade flatbread or shrimp ravioli in a crab bisque. Leave room for their inventive desserts. 27 Yorkville Ave. (416) 477-2427
360 RESTAURANT
A team of chefs prepare their culinary magic at this "highest restaurant on the planet", 1100 feet above downtown Toronto. 360's philosophy is to use first-choice fresh Ontario produce, with the best ingredients Canada has to offer, and incorporate their own contemporary flair. At the centre of it all, the world's highest award-winning wine cellar, and 500-label wine list. 301 Front Street West (416) 362-5411

ACCENTS Continental
Dishes that are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the palate, are featured in an exquisite menu that changes seasonally, and highlights new products as they become available. The bar is a comfortable favourite for tapas and cocktails, or cappucinos and exceptional desserts. For power breakfasts, romantic dinner or people watching.
Sutton Place Hotel 955 Bay Street (416) 324-5633
BARBERIAN'S Steakhouse
Anyone seeking top quality well-aged beef grilled to perfection needs to head for this Toronto favorite. The charming old building is set on a quiet downtown street; inside courteous, professional staff welcomes diners in the warm, clubby rooms. The well-balanced menu also boasts succulent ribs, exquisite lamb, and all the usual seafood delights. The lusty cuisine is matched beautifully with wine by the glass or bottle, from one of Toronto’s most extensive wine cellar. Desserts also garner rave reviews.
7 Elm St. (just west of Yonge St.) (416) 597-0335
BIAGIO Northern Italian
Classic perfection in the elegant dining rooms is reflected in Biagio’s Milanese menu. Savour Osso Buco, succulent Grilled Lamb, Seafood, Risottos and homemade Pastas courteously served by their professional staff and matched with an excellent wine cellar. Hot tip: reserve a table in Toronto’s most sought after patios in the city. 155 King St. E. (at Jarvis St.) (416) 366-4040

BLACK HOOF Charcuterie/Eclectic
Black Hoof is perfect for someone considering vegetarianism and looking for a reason to be dissuaded. On any particular night, some of the items on the inspired charcuterie board may include house smoked and cured meats such as nose-to-tail pig terrine or boar salami. Bone marrow is a menu constant, and pork belly pastrami will convince you that vegetables as a way of life is not an option. The room matches the style of food: casual and to the point. Look for the “Charcuterie” sign indicating that you are in the right place. They don’t take reservations, so expect to wait, and credit cards are not accepted. Taste one of owner Jen Agg's cocktails-- distinguished by accents like homemade hot sauce and interesting bitters. 938 Dundas Street West (416) 551-8854

BUCA Italian Enoteca
This trendy, popular restaurant is found tucked down a laneway. Make your way into the spacious dining area with towering brick walls — a reminder of its previous life as a boiler room. Today, however, you’ll admire the hanging cuts of cured meats by the open kitchen. Order a starter which might include the house-cured prosciutto and absolutely addictive baked in house fresh bread. Enjoy authentic combinations of intense rustic flavors matched with Italian wines from their extensive list.
604 King St. W. (just west of Portland St.) (416) 865-1600

Looking for a new Italian restaurant in Cabbagetown? Formerly the old Piccolo, Plum 226 has undergone renovations and now provides Cabbagetown with a fantastic casual fine dining expereince. Food and wine priced reasonably, entrees between $13-$30, wines by the glass between $7-$11 and bottles starting at $28. They also have a lounge hosting live music and entertainment, most free events - no cover. A great place to enjoy a relaxing or romantic dinner.

I have dined at Oro a few times. It is one of my favorite in the city. From the time you enter to the time you say "fare well", this establishment makes you feel "special." The food, the ambiance and the service is impeccable. Definitely a place that makes a lasting impression!

I have dined at Allen's only once, and will never go back - even though I live around the corner. The food was decent, however, the concierge quite was rude. Even after ordering a few rounds of drinks, appetizers and dinners, our table was asked to leave because we were there "too long" and the table was needed. We were there "just over an hour." We are middled aged people, not a rowdy bunch of kids! My table was not impressed.

Zin Restaurant @ Yorkville is a newly opened chinese cuisine. I have been there once and they have a very good wine selection plus very good food. I found them because I saw the review from Joanne Kates of the Global & Mail.

I was disappointed to see that Vanipha Lanna is not included in your list They have amazing food. I have mixed feelings about posting this comment because I like being able to go there without a reservation and I wouldn't want it to become too popular....
